Welcome to Nautical Terms

Post  Mike T on Sat Oct 30, 2010 9:35 am

Building wooden sailing ship models can be a fascinating hobby. New and experienced modellers alike find that when they tackle one of these builds for the first time, there is likely to be a bewildering use of technical terms which are not met elsewhere in their modelling experience.

The aim of this part of the library is to build a list of terms commonly met when building wooden ships.

The aim is for all of us to contribute as and when we can. If you need to know an explanation of a word or term, ask the question.

Use the term or word you are looking for as the title of a new topic. Please check to see if that term already exists.

Members who have an answer are invited to add what they know as postings within that topic. Where possible it would be useful to quote your source and indicate when you think the term started to be used.
