Muntz metal shown on Ebay

Post  lbl25a on Sun Feb 05, 2012 11:55 am

If you log onto Ebay and search Muntz you will find photos of the pieces of Cutty Sark plate that are being offered. Having looked closely at them I don't think that brass foil will be the answer as it is too yellow in colour. The untarnished Muntz metal is a greyish yellow colour which oxidises to a bronze colour but turns greenish when it reacts with sea water.
I suspect that the best course for me now would be to continue with the copper plating and then find some chemical solution that will react with the copper to give the correct colour of the weathered Cutty Sark plating.
